Proposals for Designing Public Policies for Popular Tourism
Alba SudWe have published a new policy brief by Ernest Cañada, Carla Izcara, Bastien Montovert, and Mariciana Zorzi with suggestions for designing tourism public policies that consider the needs and desires of popular sectors. Available in Spanish, Catalan, English, French, and Portuguese.
As part of Alba Sud's series of policy briefs aimed at offering and publicly discussing tourism policy recommendations, we present issue number 3, "Proposals for Designing Public Policies for Popular Tourism".
The primary focus of tourism policies has seldom been on local populations, especially the most underserved sectors. In a context of multiple crises and rising inequalities, this document offers proposals for promoting public policy in popular tourism. These suggestions are framed through various approaches linked to social tourism or public-use infrastructure facilitation, which can be implemented under public, private, community, or individual initiatives. This policy brief is primarily intended for public administrations responsible for developing these policies and for those seeking to govern with a program focused on defending popular interests.
This policy brief, developed by Ernest Cañada, Carla Izcara, Bastien Montovert, and Mariciana Zorzi, is part of the project “Post-COVID19 Tourism Recovery: Alerts Against the Increase of Global Inequalities. Phase 2: Proposals,” promoted by Alba Sud with the support of the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation (2022 call).
